Now, fairly well hidden by the surrounding brush, this is West Duluth’s Split Rock, located just above the tracks and a little west of  the top of Charles Avenue. This rock was a mystical place that served very well as an airplane, a ship, a submarine, a fort for warding off whatever had to be warded off at the moment - - this was the stuff that legends were made of. Grandson Tyler, pictured, agrees that all of papa’s stories could have happened during the time before the trees grew up. Oh, to be young again…..
