Linda L. (Lanthier) Zylka, 55, of Duluth, died Monday, April 9, 2001, of cancer, in her home with her loving family by her side.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with wake prayers at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Bell Brothers Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to the Laura MacArthur Library would be appreciated. Arrangements were conducted by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel.
Mrs. Zylka was born and spent all her life in Duluth. She was a 1963 graduate of Denfeld High School. Linda was employed as a secretary at Garon Knitting Mills, Lake Country Travel Service and spent 26 years with the Duluth School System ISD No. 709, where she belonged to Local Union No. 66. In the school system, Linda worked with learning disabled children in Title One at St. Jean’s, Lincoln Elementary, Nettleton Elementary and Laura MacArthur Elementary. She loved children and her job, and made a substantial difference in the lives of many children. She was a former Girl Scout leader with the Northern Pine Association, and was active in the youth hockey association and the Duluth Women’s Bowling Association. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish. She was an avid NASCAR fan.
Linda is survived by her husband, Raymond; one son, Floyd and his wife, Caroleen, of Duluth; one daughter, Tonya Gray and her husband, Robert, of Eau Claire, Wis.; four grandchildren, Raymond, Caileigh, Samuel and Malaurie; one sister, Judith Golds and her husband, George, of Panama City, Fla.; three brothers, Robert and his wife, Claudia, Steve and his wife, Ruth, and Mark Lanthier and his wife, Sandy, all of Duluth; one brother-in-law, Chuck Zylka and his wife, Chris, of Hermantown; her father-in-law, Floyd B. Zylka of Hermantown; a special friend, Mary Lanthier of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest J. and Lola Mae (MacKowsky) Lanthier; her mother-in-law, Ella Mae V. (LeFaive) Zylka; and her sister-in-law, Nona Mae Zylka.
