Sgt. William J. Haupert, 24, son of Mrs. Henry Carlson, 122 Park Ave., was killed July 2 in combat in Vietnam.
Sergeant Haupert, serving with the U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets) had been in the Army more than six years and had served in Germany and Okinawa before being sent to Vietnam in March of 1967.
He was born in Duluth and had attended Denfeld High School.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Katherine; a son, Stephen, and a daughter, Susan, all of Tawas City, Mich.; seven brothers, Richard and Russel, Duluth; Robert, Superior; Edward, Minneapolis; Arnold and Ronald, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Dennis, with the U.S. Air Force; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Bumbal, Duluth; and Mrs. Curt Pister, Annaheim, Calif.
