Does anyone remember this old, abandoned lighthouse near the end of Park Point? This is how it looked on July 6th of 2007.
For a little history - my dad took a bunch of us on a hiking trip to the end of Park Point during the fifties, while he was on strike, and I have always remembered this as a positive event. I often thought about taking my daughter on this hike but she grew up too quickly – kids have a habit of doing that.
Finally, my daughter’s oldest son was in Duluth for the week of the Fourth and he made the fatal error of saying, “papa, what are we going to do today?” Stupidly I answered, ”have you ever seen the old lighthouse at the end of Park Point?”, and the rest is history. My grandson was very excited about walking to what may have been the end of the world but all would be okay because papa was his guide. We encountered all sorts of wildlife on our trip – skeeters, flies, black birds, some-flying-thing with a hard shell and something else with a metallic turquoise color plus the not-to-be-forgotten, it looks like a crab but part of it isn’t there. Marlin Perkins would be proud of us.
This brings me back to: Does anyone remember this old, abandoned lighthouse near the end of Park Point? This is how it looked on July 6th of 2007.
I have essentially passed the baton on to the next generation knowing he will follow suit when the time comes - and I should be able to walk normally in a couple of days…..
