Albert Nelson, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011, after losing his battle with cancer, with his family at his side. Â He was born April 27, 1945, in Duluth, to Albert and Effie (Larson) Nelson. Â He attended Merritt Grade School, West Junior and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1963. Â He attended one year at UMD and received an AA degree from Minnesota Tech Institute in electronics in 1966. Â He married Susan Hakes in 1966, and they had three children. Â They divorced. Â He was employed for two years at Duluth Avionics, five years at Honeywell Inc. in Minneapolis, Hopkins, and Roseville, Minn. Â Al worked part-time and then full-time for Curt's TV in Richfield, Minn. Â Al opened TV Audio Center in Duluth's friendly west end in 1976. Â He met his present wife, Carolyn, in 1974, and they married in 1977. Â After his marriage to Carolyn, they opened Esse Driving School, Duluth, Inc. in 1984 until closing in 1999. Â Al then went on to work the past ten and one-half years at Fond du Luth Casino as a slot tech where he worked on the gaming equipment and other computerized equipment used in the gaming industry. Â Al loved working there and enjoyed the other employees and patrons. Â He was preceded in passing by his parents. Â Al is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter Kelly; sons Peter, Brett (Jennifer), and Todd (Kandi); grandchildren Andrew, Harriet, Jade, Trey, Breanne, Kodi and Morgan; brother Clyde (Cathy); brothers-in-law Dale and Paul Darrow; three nephews; many cousins; his family at Fond du Luth Casino; and his former wife, Susan. Â Visitation: 12:30 until the 1:30 funeral service Saturday, September 24, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, corner of 43rd Avenue West and Grand Avenue in Duluth.
