Jack R Foster          Jack Ramon Foster, 59, of Hermantown passed away peacefully, his wife Midge at his side, Thursday, March 10 after a long battle with kidney failure. Jack was born March 11, 1945 in Duluth to Robert and Josephine (Johnson) Foster. He attended school is West Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School. After high school, Jack joined the Army National Guard, then enlisting in the U.S. Army where he trained in Missouri and Indiana. He served abroad with the 24th Engineers, 4th Armored Division Johnson Barracks in Furth, Germany and Da Lot, Viet Nam. Upon completion of his enlistment, Jack returned to the area where he worked in Wisconsin and then Minneapolis and joined up again, but this time with the U.S. Air Force. Jack's career in the Air Force took him to stations around the world: California, Viet Nam, Michigan, England, Thailand, Arizona, North Dakota, and at last back to Duluth in 1987. During this time, Jack met and wed his beloved wife Margaret 'Midge' Barnidge in Tucson, Arizona on December 22, 1976. Jack's interests included driving sports cars, target shooting, teaching hunter safety courses in N.D. and assisting with them in his hometown of Duluth. He was a member of VFW Post 137, The American Legion and United Northern Sportsmen. Jack believed that if you put your mind to it, you could accomplish anything. Jack lived this belief throughout his life, particularly in his long battle with kidney problems that were first identified in 1976. Even when Jack was terribly ill, he never forgot a wedding anniversary, even conspiring with the help of his boys to do something romantic; remembering each son's birthday, doing his utmost to be at school events for his sons. Jack loved and was loved; giving us all much to remember and keep him close always. Jack was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife Midge; sons John (Kristina) Foster of Hermantown, Earl Foster of Duluth, and Sean Foster of Hermantown; brother Jerry (Marie) Foster of Proctor; nieces Barb (Dean) Sucker of Roy, Utah, Brenda Foster of Sugarland, Texas, Bonny Gorder of Cloquet; nephews Bryan (Dawn) Foster of Melbourne, Fla., Bill Foster of San Antonio, Texas; many cousins and his sisters and brothers-in-law and their children. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. MEMORIAL SERVICE:6 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
